По лености, вот привожу выдержку одного "размышлизма" на эту тему по английски: "Many people take the mention of these instruments (Ps. 149) allegorically and say that the timbrel required the putting to death of our flesh, and that the psaltery requires us to look up to heaven, for this instrument resounds from above, not from below like the lyre. But I would say this, that in olden times they were thus led by these instruments because of the dullness of their understanding and their recent deliverance from idols. Just as God allowed animal sacrifices, so also he let them have these instruments, condescending to help their weaknesses." (On Psalm 149:2) and "That is, I shall give thanks to Thee. But then there were musical instruments through which they executed their songs. Now, instead of instruments, we employ the body." (On Psalm 143) and "God at times permitted them (the Jews) to use instruments on account of their weakness...For in His wisdom He devised to awaken them in this way from their gross, sluggish and despondent state." (On Psalm150) Or what about Theodoret of Antioch: "Question: If songs were invented by unbelievers to seduce men, but were allowed to those under the law on account of their childish state, why do those who have received the perfect teaching of grace in the their churches still use songs, just like the children under the law? Answer: It is not simple singing that belongs to the childish state, but singing with lifeless instruments, with dancing, and with clappers. Hence the use of instruments and the others that belong to the childish state is excluded from the singing in the churches and simple singing is left." (Questions for the Orthodox #107) and also "So he also allowed the use of instrumental music, not that he was delighted by the harmony, but that he might little by little end the deception of the idols." (On the Healing of Afflictions) And then Nicetas: "It is time to turn to the New Testament to confirm what is said in the Old, and particularly to point out that the office of psalmody is not to be considered abolished merely because many other observances of the Old Law have fallen into desuetude. Only the corporal institutions have been rejected, like circumcision, the sabbath, sacrifices, discrimination in foods. So, too, the trumpets, harps, cymbals and timbrels. For the sound of these we now have a better substitute in the music from the mouths of men." (On the Unity of Hymn Singing) There are others. And then of course, there is also the testimony of the New Testament itself and it's complete lack of references to using instruments in worship. Now this in itself is not proof, however if you look at any reference to worship and music in the NT, it is ALWAYS in reference to singing, never using instruments. "I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding." (I Cor 14:15) "In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You." (Heb 2:12) "...be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." (Eph 5:18-19) "...admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." (Col 3:16) Also if we look in the book of Revelation we find that there is no mention of instruments when the act of worship is done. This is the model four our worship. In one circumstance, a mistranslation of Revelation 14:2 ("And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps." NKJV) should read AS (gr. OS) as in "And I heard the sound AS (of) harpists playing their harps." That is, the voice from heaven sounded LIKE many waters, LIKE loud thunder and LIKE harpists playing. It was powerful, loud and beautiful. And so, as you can see, instruments do not belong in any Orthodox Church for worship. Instruments are "without life" (I Cor 14:7) and are not a part of the "worship in Spirit and Truth." (Jn 4:24) They are a part of the Old Law. We, however, are joined to the New Adam, given New Life in a New Covenant. Old things have passed away. "Behold, I make all things new." (Rev 21:15)
